Camp Casey Hero Herd Application

  • Do you own a horse that meets the following criteria?
    • Excellent when loading/unloading
    • Is comfortable leaving your property/has left within the last year
    • Excellent with leading
    • Available on weekends June – October
    • Works well under “non conventional” conditions
    • Comfortable standing and walking on lead line

    Requirements:
    • Your horse will be scheduled no less than 10 days prior to the date of the Horsey House Call
    • Your horse will be leased for the day (at $75, anytime we use him/her). The lease fee will cover: the use of your horse for a period not to exceed 6 hours, 3 flakes of hay, and a small amount of shavings for the trailer
    • Your horse must be transported by a Camp Casey employee in Camp Casey’s trailer that is attached to a Camp Casey truck
    • Horse owner may attend a Horsey House Call if they have completed the required training session *Horse Owner is not required to go through the training or attend the Horsey House Call Ÿ
    • Horse owner must transport him or herself to the Horsey House Call location and participate as a volunteer
    • If all volunteer positions have been filled, horse owner may not be able to attend said Horsey House Call Ÿ
    • Horse owner must be comfortable with Camp Casey’s trained Equine Staff being in control of the Horsey House Call in its entirety
    • Horse owner is required to keep the horse up to date on vaccinations and regular healthcare (teeth, hooves, etc.) while participating in the Horsey House Call program
    • An agreement is signed between the horse owner and Camp Casey protecting both parties while the horse is in Camp Casey’s care * a copy of the agreement can be obtained upon request

    Application Process:
    • Interviews will be scheduled as determined by Program Director
    • A completed application must be submitted
    • All applications will be reviewed by the Program Director and other trained staff members

    Horse Interview will consist of, but is not limited to:
    • A casual meeting with your horse
    • Saddling/tacking up
    • Mounting
    • Walking/leading
    • Loading into the Camp Casey trailer
    • Unloading
      *Horse owner must be on the property while the physical interview is being conducted but we may ask that they not participate in the interview, as we will need to see how the horse reacts to Camp Casey’s staff

    *All submitted applications will be reviewed, but no guarantee is made that your horse will be used in Camp Casey’s Horsey House Call program until an extensive interview process is complete.
